Thats a cracker steve, my shore best is just 22-8.
I did lose one on the breakwater between 40-50lb one night,
it was a bit rough and my mate wouldnt go down to gaff it,
walked it 200yds along the breakwater trying to find a spot to get it before the line broke! affraid
It still haunts me to this day, best fish i ever lost lol!

Cheers for your comments guys - This one came from Mountbatten Pier and took a whole pout which I caught earlier that night.
I know what you mean though mulletmad - I have lost bigger eels I am sure, again the problem always seems to be landing them. I have had numerous eels from Moutbatten in the 15lb to 25lb range and that Pier has served me well.

I have found the most productive results seem to be calm and still nights on small tides. Fresh Dead baits only and I tend to cast about 20 yards of the rock edge to give you chance to lift the eels head before they bolt straight back into the rocks.

Its bass and lures for me now, only breaking out the big gear for SDF Comps, but if any one fancies a congering session at Mountbatten or anywhere else for that matter, give me a shout I am sure I could be tempted.

Cheers Steve
